JAMMU, Oct 22: Former Minister Mula Ram and DCC Rural President Hari Singh Chib asked the BJP Government at the Centre to amend the new Farm Bills on the pattern of Punjab Government for the betterment of the farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a joint statement issued here today, Mula Ram and Hari Singh Chib said that PM Narendra Modi during his previous regime had has committed to double the farmers income in 2022 but there is no roadmap is visible.
“BJP led Government has even failed to frame a logical roadmap for the doubling of Farmers income. Infact the new Farm Bills seem to be snatching their remaining income source by meagrely paying for their produce,” they said.
Urging upon the Government of India to make proper amendments in the controversial Farmers Bills before implementing the same on the pattern of Punjab Government, Mula Ram said that the Farm Bills must ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers and powers be given to the state to impose stock limits. Besides protect the landholdings of up to 2.5 acres from attachment if farmers fail to pay off their debt, he added.
Hari Singh Chib said that the procurement of food grains on MSP must be made a statutory right of the farmers and Central Govt should amend the central laws on price assurance and include a provision on punishment for sale/purchase below MSP, as well as farmer harassment.
Chib said that in the UT of J&K, before implementing the Farm Bills on the poor farmers, BJP led central Government should take the necessary steps to save the farmers from being exploited and drowned into the economic devastation.
