‘Friends of River Tawi’ Movement completes 5 successful weeks

JAMMU, Oct 19: The Friends of River Tawi (FORT) Movement, a cluster of organizations including Climate Front India (CFI), it’s daughter organization Climate Front Jammu (CFJ), All J&K Youth Federation (AJKYF), Ecoriders, ARTH Art for Humanity, Disha Foundation and Rotaract Club, Jammu, organized a mega clean-Up drive, by the name of “Tawi Cleanathon” as a part of their 5th week celebrations.
The event started with a function, in which all the member organizations expressed their viewpoints and the ways they can and are contributing for the betterment of Jammu in general and River Tawi in particular.
Anuradha, Assistant Director and Scientist, JKSPCB was the chief guest, while Mohi-ud-Din Choudhary, Corporator Ward Number 6 and Ayoub Malik, General Secretary, Gujjar Nagar Welfare Committee were the guests of honour for the event. The famous ‘Maskman’ of Jammu was also present as the special guest on the occasion, who inspired and motivated the young individuals present at the function.
“As the FORT Movement had gained immense success in the last 5 weeks, the members had planned to organize a mega-drive named ‘Tawi Cleanathon’ this time. With over a 100 volunteers, this clean-up drive was the largest of its kind ever to be organized in Jammu and Kashmir”, said Anmol Ohri, Founding Director, Climate Front India.
“With clean-up drives being organized from the last 5 weeks, the constituent organizations of the FORT Movement have been able to remove around 300 kilograms of non-biodegradable plastic and other waste materials from the shores of Tawi River” he added.
“With the local community always ready to help, the officials have already constructed a tiled-pathway at a part of the shoreline, paving the way for the beautification of Tawi, which is one of our main objectives”, he stated.
Aditya Khajuria, President, Climate Front Jammu, Sanjay Sandhu, Incharge Jammu Province, All J&K Youth Federation (AJKYF), Vishal Arora from EcoRiders, Anil Sharma from Disha Foundation and Ojus Masson from Rotract Club, Jammu were also present on the occasion.
