Army foils infiltration bid in Tanghdar

Srinagar, Oct 14: Two militants were killed in a brief exchange of gunfight in Chakoora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district today while two security men fled in Budgam from their camps along with arms and ammunition and Army foiled an infiltration bid in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir.
A joint team of Police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Chakoora area of Shopian district after inputs about presence of a group of militants hiding in the area.
As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the militants were asked to surrender but they fired upon troops and tried to flee. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering an encounter.
Two militants were killed in a brief exchange of firing when militants tried to break the cordon. However their identity is yet to be ascertained. One of them is said to be a local and another foreigner.

Police said that their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. “Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes”, police said.
Police said that the last rites of the killed militants shall be performed after conducting their medico-legal formalities including collection of DNA. “In case any family claims the killed militants to be their kith or kin, they can come forward for their identification at PCR Srinagar for participation in last rites at Handwara”, police said.
Army today foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control in Tanghdar Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Army said Border Action team (BAT) noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Kupwara district early in the morning. The suspicious activity of 3-4 intruders was observed by alert troops, close to forward post along Line of Control. Timely action by alert troops averted infiltration bid. The area search surveillance is under progress.
A joint party of police and Army’s 6-JAK Rifles recovered a bag containing arms and ammunition at Gundishart village Teetwal Sector near the Line of Control two days ago.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) has gone missing from SOG camp along with two AK-47 rifles since last night while an SSB man was absconding along with a magazine of his service rifle from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district from last two days.
The SPO identified as Altaf Hassan (Belt No. 1197 /SPO) son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat of Qazipora Chadoora in district Budgam, who was posted in SOG Camp Chadoora, is missing along with two AK-47 rifles and three magazines.
Police have registered a case and further investigations are underway. A massive manhunt has been launched to trace him out.
And Commandant of the 14th battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) informed the Police Station Chadoora that the constable identified as Altaf Hussain (110734231) son of Alam Din of Rehan Koteranka Rajouri has absconded from the camp at Nagam since last evening. The Commandant has sought registration of the FIR in connection with incident.
