JAMMU, Aug 19: The first ‘Parkash Utsav’ of Shri Guru Granth Sahib was celebrated at Gurdwara Kalgidhar, B C Road, Rehari with religious fervour and gaiety here today.
A large number of devotees from the Sikh community participated in the function. Social distancing and sanitization was affectively followed during the function. Bhajan- Kirtan was performed by the Ragi Jathas on the occasion.
S. Gajan Singh, general secretary of the management committee of the Gurdwara while speaking on the occasion said that Guru Granth Sahib is our `Jaagat Jote Guru’ and a secular Granth irrespective of any caste and creed and has given respect to all religions. He said various languages like Gurmukhi, Farsi, Sindhi, Marathi etc have been used for conveying message of great Gurus to the people through this Holy Granth.
He said in Guru Granth Sahib, there are `Vanis’ of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and also added the teachings of other Saints and handed over to the next Guru Shri Angad Dev Ji, and then to Sh Amar Das Ji, Ram Das Ji, and Lastly to Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The `Vanis’ (teachings) of these Guru were collected by Guru Arjan Dev Ji and made it after being written by Bhai Gurudass Ji and gave it the shape of Granth/ Pothi Sahib which took 15 months to complete the Granth on Ist Sept, 1604 and presented in the `Darbar Sahib’ Amritsar. The Granth has been written in 31 `Ragas’ which contain `Vanis’ of six Gurus, 11 Bhatts and four Gurusikhs.
In 1706, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj added the `Vani’ of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and before his death at Nadher Sahib ( Hazur Sahib), Maharashtra, he presented it in the shape of Guru Granth Sahib and said that no further Guru in the human being will take place. This Guru Granth Sahib is the presentation of whole humanity which gave us a lesson that God is one but the religions are separate but go in the same way. Jathedar Mohinder Singh also spoke on the occasion. Guru Ka Langar was also served to the devotees.
