JAMMU, Apr 18: A joint deputation of Arakshan Virodhi Manch (AVM), Jammu and India Against Corruption (IAR) led by Ram Paul Seth, convener AVM called on Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra here today.
The deputation submitted a nine point memorandum of demands for their early redressal.
The demands included abolition of caste based reservation as it creates division in the society, the abolition of reservation in promotion, reservation among the poorest of the poor irrespective of their caste, creed, colour, sex, religion or region and strict implementation of basic fundamental principles of equality, justice and liberty.
The memorandum also included that the political reservation on the basis of caste be abolished, a Commission for the Welfare of General Category people be constituted analogous to that of the OBCs, SCs and STs, the Supreme Court’s decision of 2012 in the petition of M Nagraj be implemented and the arrangements for educational rehabilitation of orphan destitute children and physically handicapped children be made by the Government from primary to higher education irrespective of caste, colour and creed.
Yash Paul Sanson, spokesperson AVM alongwith the other members discussed each demand with Mr Malhotra, who assured them that the demands will be submitted to Chief Minister for consideration.
Prominent among those who accompanied the deputation were Raj Kumar Banathia, Ved Parkash Sharma, Om Parkash Shrikul, Ram Paul Sharma, KK Sharma, Ravi Kumar Sawhney, Suresh Kumar, Raj Kumar and Tara Singh.
