UDHAMPUR, July 28: Latti Development Committee (LDC) has demanded creation of separate Assembly constituency for the Latti-Dudu-Basantgarh as this remote and backward area of district Udhampur has always remained neglected by the respective public representatives for the last many decades.
While projecting the sorry state of affairs in this mountainous sub region, having great tourism and horticulture potential, chairman of the LDC and Sarpanch Latti, Kasturi Lal Gupta in a meeting today said that even after 72 years of Independence, this area is being treated as `orphan baby’ of the J&K Government. Worst is the condition of only fair weather single road connecting this area with the district headquarters. The people of Dudu and Basantgarh Sub Divisions and Latti Tehsil are deprived of basic facilities. There are many villages where no roads still exists. Many villages are facing power and water crisis.
The most unfortunate are the people from Latti and Dudu area who remained part of reserved Ramnagar constituency for long 35 years and were then connected with Chenani Assembly Constituency which was again reserved after Ramnagar was opened about 21 years ago. They are now with the reserved constituency for the last more than 50 years, for no fault of theirs but due to most unfair and bias decision of the people at the helm of affairs during that time.
Worst is the health care scenario in the area as no doctor is available in most of the hospitals/ Health Centres in the area. No tourism project was ever sanctioned for this area despite the fact that there is massive tourism potential. Horticulture sector has also lot of scope but there is no promotion or encouragement from the department. No awareness camps are organized. The water and power supply scenario is also very grim. There is need to monitor the activities in Govt offices in this entire area.
The LDC members urged upon Lt Governor G C Murmu and the members of the Delimitation Committee to carve out a separate Assembly constituency for the area from Mantalai to Latti-Dudu and Basantgarh by combining nearly 32 Panchayats of this belt so that people of this area could get long awaited justice.
The members who attended meeting included Sarpanch Pardeep Singh, Krishan Lal, Master Khalid Hussain, Govind Ram and others.
