978 bovines rescued in Udhampur this year, 173 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Oct 1: In Udhampur district, a total of 145 cases of bovine smuggling were registered this year, resulting in the rescue of 978 bovines from illegal transportation.
According to Police, 173 persons were arrested in connection with these cases, including 165 under bovine smuggling offences and eight under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Moreover, 104 vehicles used for smuggling of bovines were seized and 20 registration certificates of such vehicles were cancelled. 67 convictions were secured during this period.
Additionally, property attachment proceedings were initiated in 05 cases, including 01 Tata Mobile (forfeiture), 02 Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks, and 01 Tata Yodha, with an estimated total value of Rs 51 lakh.
