JAMMU, Jan 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jammu district claimed to have seized 933 vehicles for their involvement in illegal mining in the year 2024.
Out of the seized vehicles, 831 were later released after their owners completed the necessary formalities as per the law.
Throughout the year, fines totalling Rs 1,31,57,312 were also imposed on those violating mining regulations.
A police official said that this crackdown on illegal mining also led to the registration of four FIRs against individuals or groups repeatedly involved in illegal activities.
In addition, he said, the process to cancel the registrations of these habitual offenders’ vehicles has been initiated, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to taking stringent legal action against those violating mining laws.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Joginder Singh expressed his firm commitment to continuing these efforts, emphasizing that the police will take every possible measure to stop illegal mining in the region.
“Our primary goal is to protect public property, preserve the environment, and ensure strict action against those exploiting natural resources for personal gains,” he said.
