9 persons hospitalized after suspected illness in Rajouri

JAMMU, June 5: In a surprising development in Kotli Kalaban area of Manjakote, nine persons have been admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Rajouri after falling ill due to `suspected illness’.
The patients exhibited symptoms of a waterborne disease, prompting immediate medical attention.
Medical Superintendent of GMC Rajouri, Dr Shamim Choudhary informed that although three of the patients were initially in a serious condition due to dehydration, but all are now stable.
“It appears to be a case of waterborne infection. All the necessary medical tests have been conducted, and samples of the water consumed by the affected individuals have been collected for laboratory analysis. The condition of all the patients is currently stable, and there is no cause for serious concern,” Dr Choudhary said.
Those undergoing treatment at GMC Rajouri include Asia Kouser, daughter of Mukhtar Hussain, aged 22 years, resident of Bagla; Sakina Begum, wife of Zakir Hussain, aged 46 years, also from Bagla; and Zahien Akhter, wife of Basharat Ahmed, aged 24 years, from the same locality.
Among the others admitted are- Razia Begum, wife of Mohd Bashir, aged 45 years, from Kotli; Gulzar Bi, wife of Abdul Rashid, aged 58 years, from Bagla; and Ajaz Kouser, daughter of Abdul Rehman, aged 30 years, from Bagla besides Mohd Abbas, son of Abdul Rashid, aged 31 years; Amir Choudhary, son of Basharat Ahmed, aged 2 years, and Malika Khatoon, daughter of Mohd Razak, aged 31 years, all residents of Bagla, have also been hospitalized.
Authorities have taken the matter seriously and initiated a thorough investigation into the source of the contamination. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and have assured the public that appropriate measures are being taken to ensure public safety. CMO Rajouri said that matter is not alarming and the things are well under control.
