9-day long script course concludes

KARGIL, Feb 29: The concluding session of the 9-day long basic course in Yige-the script used to write Purgi, Balti, and Ladakhi was held at Language Centre Kargil here today.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.
Director CIBS Prof. Konchok Wangdus, Deputy Secretary Culture/ Special Officer for Culture G-1 Kargil Nazir Hussain, Research Officer CIBS Dr Kunchok Rigzin and Public Relations Officer (PRO) CIBS, Dr Sonam Wangchuk were present on the occasion.
The Yige script course was jointly organized by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) Leh and Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Kargil at Language Center Kargil in which more than 80 learners participated.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC while appreciating CIBS Leh for having come forward to organize the language script course for the second consecutive year in Kargil expressed hope that it will go a long way in reviving the lost glory of Purgi language through the adoption of its script, Yige.
While underlining the relevance of such courses in understanding the scripting patterns of the mother tongue, Feroz Khan said that LAHDC Kargil will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CIBS in near future which would be aimed at introducing Yige script courses in different schools in the district. He further said that the LAHDC would also constitute an Advisory cum Experts Committee through Cultural Academy to advise on the ways and means to introduce Yige script courses in educational institutions.
Director CIBS Prof. Konchok Wangdus in his address while expressing satisfaction over the successful conduct of the 9 day course said that CIBS is always ready to organize more such mother tongue based events in Kargil district as and when approached by the LAHDC, Kargil, Cultural Academy and other concerned agencies.
Earlier, Deputy Secretary Culture/ Special Officer for Culture G-1 Kargil Nazir Hussain while delivering the welcome address spoke about the various cultural and literary activities organized by Cultural Academy Kargil for the promotion and preservation of art, culture and linguistic traditions in the district.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Coordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Kargil Jigmet Spaldon, writers and poets including Muhammad Ali Ashour ,Ashraf Ali Sagar, Muhammad Yaseen Ansari and others, participants of the 9 day course and a large number of cultural and literary enthusiasts.
Eminent Balti writer Muhammad Sadiq Rustam Hardassi conducted the proceedings while as Cultural Expert Tsewang Rigzin delivered the vote of thanks at the end.
