9 bovines rescued, 2 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Nov 13: Udhampur Police foiled three separate bovine smuggling attempts under the jurisdiction of Police Station Chenani and Police Station Majalta, rescuing 19 bovine animals, which were being transported illegally towards Kashmir.
During naka checking at Motor Shed Chenani, one vehicle (Tata Mobile JK03L-5873) was intercepted. Sensing trouble, driver fled the spot abandoning the vehicle, which was found loaded with 09 bovines tied cruelly and without permission for transportation.
Police rescued the animals and seized the vehicle besides registering case FIR No. 117/2025 U/S 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act.
In another incident, a Tata Mobile (JK14J-3731) was intercepted. On checking 06 bovines were found loaded in a cruel manner without legal permission. Case FIR No. 118/2025 U/S 281, 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act registered.
At Police Post Battal, an Auto (JK14J-1452) coming from Ramkot towards Kashmir was intercepted. Four bovines were found tied cruelly in the Auto. Police rescued the animals and arrested driver Mushtaq Ahmed Chowkar and co-accused Miya Shoukar, both residents of Udhampur.. In this regard, case FIR No. 93/2025 U/S 223 BNS & 11 PCA Act has been registered at PS Rehambal.
