9 bovines rescued, smuggler arrested

UDHAMPUR, July 9: Police foiled two separate attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued nine bovines besides arresting an alleged smuggler.
Reliable information was received at Police Post Sudhmahadev that an unidentified person was smuggling four bovine animals on foot from Mantalai Kossar towards Kashmir Valley via Sudhmahadev.
On reaching Gau Karan, the suspect spotted the police and fled from the spot leaving the bovines behind. All Bovines were rescued. An FIR No. 66/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani.
Police team of PP Tikri during naka checking, intercepted a canter bearing Reg. No. JK14H/0518,. coming from Jammu towards Udhampur/ Srinagar and transporting five bovines.
The driver identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Subash Chander of Marothi, Tehsil Chenani, District Udhampur, failed to produce any permission for transporting the bovines following which he was arrested and all the bovines were rescued.
A case FIR No. 105/2025 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Rehambal.
