850 bovines rescued, 150 smugglers arrested this year

UDHAMPUR, Aug 1: Continuing its relentless crackdown on bovine smuggling with decisive enforcement actions, District Police Udhampur arrested 150 bovine smugglers, including seven booked under Public Safety Act during the first seven months of this year.
According to a Police spokesperson, during the months of January to July 2025, a total of 124 cases were registered, resulting in the rescue of 850 bovines from illegal transportation.
Moreover, spokesperson added, 89 vehicles used for transportation of bovines were seized and 20 registration certificates of such vehicles were cancelled. 43 convictions were secured during this period, demonstrating the district police’s strong legal follow-through.
Additionally, property attachment proceedings were initiated in four cases, leading to the forfeiture of one Tata Mobile and three Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks, with an estimated total value of Rs 41 lakh.
