RAMBAN, June 2: The 84 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrated its 40th Raising Day with great enthusiasm at its Tactical Headquarters in Chanderkote, Ramban.
Raised on June 1, 1985, at Group Centre CRPF, New Delhi, the Battalion has served in various conflict zones including Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast, and Punjab.
Since 2010, the Unit has been deployed in Ramban for the security of National Highway-44, a crucial stretch connecting the Kashmir Valley to Jammu and the rest of the country.
The celebrations began with a multi-faith prayer at Sarv Dharm Prarthna Sthal and tribute were paid to the martyrs of the Battalion.
A new flag was hoisted at the Quarter Guard, followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour received by Commandant N Ranbir Singh.
Addressing the troops during a Sainik Sammelan, the Commandant greeted all personnel and their families.
He praised the unit’s valiant legacy and urged the jawans to maintain high standards of duty and discipline.
As part of the day’s events, 20 personnel donated blood in collaboration with District Hospital Ramban. The unit also planted 200 saplings to promote environmental awareness.
In the run-up to the Raising Day, various sports and skill competitions like weapon handling, firing, badminton, and volleyball were organised to boost team spirit.
A cultural programme marked the evening celebrations, attended by DIG CRPF Vivek Bhandral as chief guest. Special honours were given to CRPF Veer Naari Rubeena Begum of Maitra, Ramban. Blood donors and competition winners were also felicitated.
The day ended with a traditional Bada Khana, bringing together officers, personnel, and their families in a spirit of camaraderie and pride.
