SAMBA, Mar 28: Police in today claimed that they have arrested 8 drug peddlers and bovine smugglers from different areas and recovered from their possession heroin worth Rs 75000.
A police spokesperson said that Sukhdev Raj alias Sukha of Denth Nud, Samba; Sunny Jamwal and Atul Singh of Seir Jhaganu, Udhampur; Manzoor Ahmed of Channi Mansar, Mohammad Usman Khatana of Chowadi, Sainik Colony, Jammu; Tariq Hussain of Gadvial, Anantnag at present Bathindi, Jammu; Irshad Hussain of Karyani Tallab, Narwal, Jammu, and Mohammad Imran Doie of Anantnag at present Karyani Tallab, Jammu, were arrested with the consignment.
“The accused have been booked in three separate cases registered at Police Station Samba and Police Station Bari Brahamana under relevant sections of the law and further investigations started,” he said.
The bovine and heroin smugglers were arrested by PSIs Deepika Jalotra, Divya Bharti, Abrar Ahmed, Rakesh Singh and SHO Samba, Rajeshwar Singh; SHO Bari Brahamana, Sunil Sharma under the supervision of SDPO Bari Brahamana Rahul Nagar and DySP Headquarters Samba, Mohammad Usman and Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary.
Meanwhile, SSP Samba, Benam Tosh said in a statement that there is no room for illicit smuggling of any kind in Samba District.
“Police are taking stringent action under law against smugglers,” he said.
