SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Police arrested 76 people across Kashmir for creating disturbance while normal life continued to remain crippled in Kashmir for 87th consecutive day today due to the separatist sponsored strike and curfew like restrictions.
Police said that continuing its sustained drive against the trouble mongers involved in various offences of disturbing the situation in different parts of the Valley, they arrested 76 such individuals during past 24 hours.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, situation in the Valley remained by and large peaceful today.
The statement said that during the day, shops in some parts of Srinagar were open besides a large number of vendors were also seen on the streets of the city.
“Increased vehicular movement was observed in the city as also in other parts of the Valley,” the statement said.
Police said that security forces have been deployed at some places, including market places, to instill a sense of security among the people so that they can carry out their day-to-day activities without fear.
The officials said that the situation in Kashmir is improving with each day and there has been a significant increase in the movement of private and public transport, except buses, in uptown areas of the summer capital Srinagar, including in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk.
Many street vendors and hand cart vendors are selling goods like fruits, vegetables, fresh juice, tea and snacks at many places in the city.
However, life in downtown city and other parts of the Valley, including district headquarters and towns, remained affected for the 87th straight day due to the shutdown call of the separatists, who have been spearheading the ongoing unrest in the Valley seeking resolution of Kashmir issue.
A man, who was injured in an accident during clashes in Narbal area of Central Kahsmir’s Budgam district on September 23, today succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura today.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Gasi, a resident of Gagarpora Narbal.
Gasi was injured after a motorcycle he was riding fell down during clashes in Kawoosa area. Both the injured were rushed to SKIMS where Gasi breathed his last early today.
