SRINAGAR, June 29: Government today said the 73rd amendment Act of Constitution of India in the Panchayati Raj Institutions is not applicable to the State owing to the special Constitutional position enjoyed under Constitution of India.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Neelam Lengeh in Lower House, Minister incharge Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj stated that 73rd amendment Act is not applicable to the J&K State in view of the special Constitutional position enjoyed by the State.
“However, the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendments) Act, 2014 has been enacted to bring in the broader features of the 73rd amendment of the Constitution of India,” he said.
