Srinagar, Sept 29: Shutdown continued on 83rd straight day in Kashmir while minor clashes were reported in a few areas of Srinagar and Police arrested 73 people for creating trouble in the Valley.
Schools, colleges, markets, other business establishments remained closed and public transport was off the roads across Valley. However, the uptown areas of Srinagar including the business hub Lal Chowk, Raj Bagh, Jawahar Nagar, Dalgate private transport was plying.
Clashes were reported from Noor Bagh area of Srinagar today during which security forces fired teargas to disperse the protesters. Clashes continued till late evening. Security forces allegedly thrashed scores of people who were travelling through the Noor Bagh to Cement Kadal road.
Clashes were reported from Habba Kadal area of Srinagar. Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar during which security forces used teargas to disperse them.
Clashes were reported in Kani Kadal, Chota Bazar area of Srinagar during which scores of tear gas shells were fired by the security forces to disperse the protesters.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, the situation across the Valley remained by and large peaceful today. “There was no untoward incident reported from any part of the Valley,” it said.
The statement said that during the day large number of vehicles was seen plying on city roads as well main towns and on the inter-district roads.
“During the past 24 hours, police arrested 73 such individuals who were involved in causing disturbances by harassing shopkeepers, creating disruptions in traffic movement by placing obstructions on roads and lanes, besides involved in damaging public/private property in different parts of the Valley,” the statement said.
