Srinagar, Oct 6: Seven militants were killed in two separate gun battles in North Kashmir as Army foiled two infiltration bids along the Line of Control (LoC) and repulsed an attack on an Army base.
An Army official said that troops along the LoC in Nowgam and Rampur sectors of North Kashmir foiled three infiltration bids along the LoC in Nowgam and killed four militants.
At Ratan Post in Nowgam sector, troops of 20 Dogra noticed movement of 5-6 militants infiltrating during the night.  Army challenged them and they opened fire leading to a gun battle. The searches were being conducted since morning and four dead bodies have been recovered. The searches in the area are going on.
One more infiltration bid was foiled in Nowgam sector and another in Rampur sector where militants tried to sneak it but fled back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) after Army fired at them.
A Defence spokesman said here: “In a major blow to Pakistan sponsored terror, the alert Army and BSF troops along the LoC today successfully foiled three infiltration attempts in Nowgam and Rampur sectors.”
“The Army and BSF which are on a very high state of vigil along the LoC, detected two infiltrating columns of terrorists in Nowgam and another in Rampur early morning today. Even though under intense fire from Pakistani posts, evidently to facilitate the infiltration, the Army immediately intercepted the terrorists ahead of the LoC. While giving a befitting reply to Pak army firing, even the terrorists were engaged in a fierce gunfight and forced to flee back”, the spokesman said.
“The Army action has resulted in the elimination of four terrorists whose bodies have been recovered from Nowgam sector in the search operations that continue even at the time of filing this report”, the spokesman said.
Three militants were killed as Army foiled an attack on their camp in Langare area of Handwara early today.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara, Ghulam Jeelani told Excelsior that three militants were shot dead in Langate area of Kupwara district after they attacked Army’s Battalion Headquarter.
“The firing has stopped. We have recovered three bodies of the militants. Three AK-47 rifles have also been recovered”, said Jeelani.
He said: “at around 5 am, militants opened fire on Battalion headquarters of 30 Rashtriya Rifles of Army at Langate in Kupwara district. The Army retaliated and militants fled. Police and Army immediately chased and trapped them in nearby orchards.”
Colonel Rajive Saharan, Commander of 30 RR while giving details of the operation told reporters: “Today morning, three terrorists carrying weapons in our Langate Army camp’s perimeter fencing were spotted. Our sentries, soon after spotting them, challenged them and soon after being challenged the terrorists heavily fired on these posts and living shelters of our jawans.”
Colonel Saharan said that three militants were killed in the operation that was launched. “In the retaliatory action, our three sentry posts continuously fired on these militants and in the meantime, we activated our Quick Reaction Team (QRT) so that the terrorists don’t flee the area where they were spotted. We through illumination round illuminated that area and killed all three terrorists in the ensuing operation”, he said.
The Army officer said that huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. “A large cache of arms and ammunition have been recovered from the possession of these terrorists. This operation is still underway. Our Langate camp is very large and that’s why the sanitization has not fully completed. If we get any further information, we will share with you”, he said.
The Commanding Officer said there could have been more militants but here “we have spotted only three terrorists. So we take it there were only three terrorists who approached our parameter fencing”.
Colonel Saharan said that Pakistan make medicine was recovered from them.  “The medicines that have been recovered from all three terrorists have Pakistan marking on them. This ascertains that all three terrorists were Pakistani terrorists… the maps and matrix sheets, which they have been using, that also is being analyzed. If we come to know more on this we will let you know”, he said.
The officer said that they have recovered four radio sets and three GPS devices. “The terrorists carried one more radio set also. So that’s why from the three terrorists who have been killed we have recovered four radio sets and three GPS’s”, he added.
