JAMMU, Mar 3: Police here today claimed to have achieved a major breakthrough against drug smugglers and organised criminals by arresting seven people in multiple operations and recovering a total of 603 grams of heroin-like substance, along with illegal weapons and vehicles from their possession.
In one of the operations on February 27, a police official said a special naka party of Police Station Miran Sahib led by SHO concerned, Inspector Jatinder Singh under the overall supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu, IH Rather, signaled a Bolero vehicle (JK21A-8936) near Ring Road, Prithvipur, but its occupants attempted to flee and later attacked the police team with a long sword.
He said they later jumped into a cemented drain to escape but were rescued and apprehended by the alert police officials.
During search, 281 grams of heroin-like substance, a sharp-edged weapon, cash and mobile phone were recovered from their possession, the police official said, adding that the Bolero vehicle they were travelling in was also seized.
Accordingly, the duo, identified as Mushtaq Ali alias Kaka and Mangal Hussain alias Mangal, both residents of Sarore Adda, Bari Brahamana, was booked in case FIR number 35/2026 registered under sections 109, 132, 111 BNS and 8, 21, 22, 29, 60 NDPS Act besides 4/25 Arms Act at Police Station Miran Sahib.
According to the police official, Mushtaq Ali is also the main accused in FIR number 24/2026, the intentional hit-and-run case in which a Head Constable of the Police Station Miran Sahib was critically injured while performing official duty.
He is also reported to be associated with the rival gang of notorious drug peddler, Lau Gujjar.
In a related development earlier on February 21, he said, another wanted accused, Fareed Ali alias Baba Ring Road alias Bagu of Galwandey Chak, Gajansoo Marh, Kanachack, was arrested from Ballol area with 14.03 grams of heroin-like substance and a sharp-edged weapon by a team of Police Station Miran Sahib.
According to him, he was booked in case FIR number 25/2026 under sections 8/21/22/60 of the NDPS Act and 4/25 Arms Act and during investigation of this case, additional 12 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of a Swift car allegedly used in the intentional hit-and-run case.
So, in connection with FIR numbers 24/2026, 25/2026, and 35/2026, a total of three individuals have been arrested and 307 grams of heroin-like substance, two sharp-weapons and vehicles used in the commission o offence have been seized, the police official said.
Meanwhile, in another major operation on February 27, he said, a case FIR number 34/2026 under sections 109, 132, 3(5) BNS, 3/25 Arms Act and 8/21/22/29/60 of the NDPS act was registered against four people, identified as Dilbagh Singh of Malikpur, Miran Sahib, and his associates, Naman Kumar of Nougran, Bishnah, Sundeep Sharma and Sunny Sharma of Indira Nagar, Miran Sahib, after 40 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.
According to the police official, they were arrested by a team of Police Station Miran Sahib by bursting the tyres of their Swift vehicle (PB46AL-0415) while they were trying to escape after police asked them to stop.
A pistol with live ammunition was also recovered from the arrested individuals, he said.
On further disclosure of the arrested accused, the police official said, an additional 256 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from Indra Nagar area of Miran Sahib.
So, a total of 296 grams of heroin-like substance, a pistol, with live ammunition and one Swift care were seized from their possession, the police official said, adding that a total of 603 grams of heroin-like substance, along with weapons and vehicles have been recovered from the possession of 7 accused in all the cases.
According to him, further investigation is underway in all the cases to trace the backward and forward linkages of the narcotics network and identify other associates.
