7 bovines rescued, smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Jan 13: Udhampur Police foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling at Kainthgali under the jurisdiction of Police Station Panchari and rescued seven bovines besides arresting two smugglers.
Reports said that the Police team of Police Station Panchari, led by SHO Nishat Sumbria stopped a vehicle bearing registration number JK14H-8621 (Tata Mobile) coming from Moungri towards Panchari for checking. During inspection, 07 bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicle and tied mercilessly with ropes.
During enquiry, the driver disclosed his name as Mohd Saleem son of Mohd Qasim and the co-passenger as Yasir Ali son of Farooq Ahmed, both residents of Samroli, Tehsil Chenani, District Udhampur. They failed to produce any valid permission from the District Magistrate, Udhampur, for transportation of the bovines.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 01/2026 under Sections 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Panchari and investigation is underway.
