JAMMU, Aug 13: The 67th meeting of the Empowered Committee on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, was convened today at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Jammu.
The meeting was chaired by Chandrashekhar Azad, Regional Director, RBI Jammu, and saw participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including the Joint Director, Industries and Commerce Department, Jammu; Assistant Director, MSME-Development and Facilitation Office; controlling heads of J&K Bank, State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, J&K Grameen Bank, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank. Also present were officials from convenor banks of UTLBC J&K and UTLBC Ladakh, along with office-bearers of PHD Chamber of Commerce, Indian Chamber of Commerce, and Bari Brahmana Industries Association.
In his opening remarks, the Regional Director highlighted the significance of the recent India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed on July 24, which has identified Small and Medium Enterprises as a priority area for bilateral cooperation. The agreement, he noted, is expected to create new opportunities for Indian MSMEs through enhanced trade facilitation and expanded market access.
Reflecting on the regional MSME landscape, Azad pointed out that the growth in the number of registered MSMEs in J&K and Ladakh has been remarkable, with the number of registered units expanding nearly 24 times in J&K and 22 times in Ladakh over the last four years. The figures have reached 7.47 lakh units in J&K and 18,708 units in Ladakh.
The Committee subsequently reviewed the performance of banks on several key parameters, including TReDS, Udyam Registration, flow of credit to the MSME sector, and the achievement of targets recommended by the Prime Minister’s Task Force on MSMEs. Discussions also covered the position of NPAs, coverage under the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for MSE, status of sponsored cases under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and rehabilitation of stressed units.
