6 yrs RI awarded to terrorist

JAMMU, Aug 4: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal today awarded six years rigorous imprisonment to a terrorist namely Abdul Rashid, son of Ghulam Ahmed of Sopore after 12 years long investigation and trial.
According to the prosecution case, on November 13, 2000 Satwari Police arrested Abdul Rashid and Parvez Ahmed, son of Abdul Samad from Beli Charana area and from their possession, pistols, magazines, live rounds, RDX and other items were recovered.
After completion of investigation into the case, challan was presented in the court of law. However, Parvez Ahmed died during the course of trial
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge, Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal observed, “carrying illicit weapons is one of the organized white collar crimes which has assumed serious proportion globally. This causes serious setbacks to the world’s economy and life of citizens, who are unaware of these activities and their effects”.
“Now-a-days, the trafficking of illicit weapons/explosive is done with the help of modern organized outfits. For achieving the required finish in the art of carrying illicit weapons, the advance strategies and technology provides them with sophistication and perfection”, Principal Sessions Judge said, adding “there has been an upsurge in the incidents of supply of weapons/explosive from across the border especially from the Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Nepal borders”.
With these observations, the Court awarded three years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 3/25 Arms Act and rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years and fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 7/25 Arms Act to Abdul Rashid. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
