JAMMU, Aug 28: Police today arrested 6 persons along with 17 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession.
Police spokesman said that, on specific inputs of drug smuggling gang active in the Ramban-Batote area, police party from Ramban Police Station laid a naka at National Highway near Shan Palace, and intercepted a Tata Magic bearing registration number JK18 2364. During checking police recovered huge quantity of poppy straw and arrested three smugglers identified as Raies Ahmed, son of Ghulam Nabi, Irshad Ahmed, son of Mohd Yaqoob and Adil Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohd, all resident of Kulgam, he added.
Meanwhile, three smugglers of the same gang who were traveling in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JKO3B 6751, were also arrested, spokesman said, adding that they were identified as Muzaffar Ahmed, son of Gul Mohd, Khurshid Ahmed, son of Mohd Ismail and Sabzar Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani, all residents of Qazigund. A total of 17 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from their possession, spokesman added.
A case under FIR number 128/2012 under Sections 8/15/29 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Police Station Ramban and investigation started.
