RAMBAN, Sept 20: Chanderkote and Banihal police seized 538 kilograms of poppy straw and arrested five persons.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Chanderkote Police Station laid a naka and intercepted a truck.
During checking, police seized 531 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Sukhdev Singh, son of Amar Singh, a resident of Kapoorthala, Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 54/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Chanderkote Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team from Banihal Police Station seized 7 kilograms of poppy straw from a gas cylinder kept in the Eco Sport car.
Four persons traveling in the car identified as Balwinder Singh, son of Gurnam Singh, Gurvinder Singh, son of Sohan Singh, Harjinder Singh, son of Satnam Singh and Surinder Singh, son of Ajit Singh, all resident of Hoisharpur Punjab were arrested on the spot.
A case under FIR Number 161/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Chanderkote Inspector Abid Hussain Bukhari and SHO Banihal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
