Srinagar, Oct 9: A team of Food Safety officers from the Drug and Food Control Organization today seized five quintals of snacks and sealed the manufacturing unit.
According to officials, the team, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Srinagar, inspected a snack manufacturing unit operating from Abhanshah HMT, Srinagar, which was found to be in violation of regulations.
“The unit was operating without a licence and under unsanitary conditions. Five quintals of Namkeen snacks, including katlam and finni, were seized,” officials said.
Samples were collected for further analysis. “The unit has been sealed immediately and prohibited from further manufacturing,” they added.
A complaint under relevant sections of the FSS Act, 2006, and Rules & Regulations, 2011, will be presented before the competent court in due course, according to officials.
The Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, Smitha Sethi, has directed all food business operators to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act; otherwise, stern action under the rules will be initiated.
