50 kg sub-standard meat seized

JAMMU, Nov 21: A special drive to check sale of sub-standard meat was conducted today in different areas of Jammu during which about 50 kg of substandard/illegal slaughtered meat was seized and later on disposed of properly.
The drive was conducted on the directions of Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma and Commissioner JMC, Arvind Kotwal, by Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr Zaffar Iqbal along with other team members.
The surprise drive started from CPO Chowk Panjthirthi, Ustad Mohalla, Newplot, Janipur, Bantalab, Paloura, Jewel, Gujjar Nagar, etc. During the drive, various meat shops were checked and about 50kg of substandard/illegal slaughtered meat was seized and later on disposed of properly. A fine to the tune of Rs 6000 was also levied from meat sellers selling unstamped meat.
