POONCH, Oct 12: The water supply to about a dozen villages and about twenty hamlets in Mankote, Mendhar and Harni area of district Poonch have been badly affected as five water pumping stations of the PHE department are lying defunct for the last more than three weeks.
Sources said that some of the water pumping stations are even lying defunct for the last more than one month. It said that many localities of Mendhar town are also badly hit as one of the water pumping stations of Mendhar town, is also lying out of order for the last over three weeks. The people are dependent on the supply by the only one PHE water tanker available in the whole tehsil and the private water tankers.
The other water pumping stations which are lying defunct are- Dachhal, Chhatral, Simkan and Lower Ari. The people of the area strongly took up the matter with the concerned SDM Mendhar and sought his intervention alleging that concerned PHE authorities have failed to address the issue despite repeated requests.
They claimed that when the issue was taken up with the PHE Sub Divisional officer at Mendhar, Muneer Hussain, he claimed that the matter pertains to the Mechanical Wing of the department. The SDM then directed the Executive Engineer Mechanical Division, Poonch to restore water supply to these villages as early as possible.
