SRINAGAR, May 22: The police today arrested five drug peddlers in Awantipora and Kulgam areas of South Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson said a team from Police Post Toll Plaza intercepted two suspicious individuals at a checkpoint established at Kaigam Crossing. “During the search, 315 grams of charas was recovered from their possession. Both individuals were arrested,” the spokesperson said.
The accused have been identified as Mayser Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Ladermar, and Arshid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Gadibal Handwara, Maidani Chugal Handwara. “A case under FIR No. 119/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Awantipora, and further investigation is underway,” he said.
In a separate incident, a police team from Police Station Pampore intercepted two suspects at a checkpoint in Kadlabal Pampore. “During the search, police recovered 2.25 grams of brown sugar and Rs 12,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from narcotics trade. Both were arrested on the spot,” a police official said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Firdous Ahmad Mir alias Fir Codein, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, a resident of Kadlabal Pampore, and Sahil Shafi Khan, son of Mohd Shafi Khan, a resident of Dalgate Srinagar. “A case under FIR No. 57/2025 has been registered at Police Station Pampore and investigation has begun,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam, a police team from Police Post Mirbazar noticed a suspicious individual carrying a bag while patrolling the Mirbazar area. The individual attempted to flee but was apprehended tactfully. “A search of the bag led to the recovery of 518 grams of charas powder,” the official added.
The accused has been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Naikoo, son of Sanaullah Naikoo, a resident of Kachpora. A case under FIR No. 94/2025 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qazigund.
