JAMMU, Apr 17: Organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the 5-day Basohli Miniature Painting Camp held to mark the World Heritage Day concluded with inauguration of an exhibition of the works created by the invited contemporary practitioners of miniature art at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, here today.
The artistes who participated in the camp included Dharampal Verma, Shakeel Ahmad Raza, Kabir Maharana, Sona Padha, Dheeraj Kapoor, Rajni Bala, Pooja, Savita Sharma, Sushil Padha, Antima Manhas, Deepa Soni, Kanchan Kumari and Anuradha Kumari.
Atul Dullu, Commissioner / Secretary, Tourism and Culture, after inaugurating the exhibition also gave away certificates of participation to participants. In his address on the occasion he assured the participants that adequate financial support would be provided to them by the Government for promotion of this art form.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad said that the aim of holding the camp was to create awareness among people about preservation of cultural heritage of the State. He said that such events were important as they provided a ready platform to the artistes for showcasing their talent. Saujanaya Sharma, Director Tourism and Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, Academy, were also present on the occasion.
The three day long cultural extravaganza which jointly organized by Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society and Department of Tourism, at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, had attracted thousands of visitors who evinced keen interest in series of art exhibitions put up in the Darbar Hall by Srijan Samooh Art Group featuring paintings of eight local amateur artists Chetna, Ch Sunder, Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Sanjay Sharma, M A Alnasir, Subash Langeh, Vijay Anand and Virji Sumbli.
The solo-show of paintings titled ‘Virsa’ by K K Gandhi and photo-exhibition titled ‘Mitti De Rang’ by Satish Chalotra also won appreciation from the spectators.
