SAMBA, Feb 23: Continuing its drive against bovine smugglers and their propagators, Samba Police has foiled a bovine smuggling attempt in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal, arrested a bovine smuggler and rescued five bovines from the clutches of bovine smuggler.
A police spokesperson said acting on information received from reliable sources, a team of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal during vehicle checking at Naka NHW Tapyal, intercepted a Load Carrier bearing Registration Number JK02DT-3849 for its checking. During checking, five bovines were found inside the vehicle which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally without any valid permission.
The bovine smuggler identified as Amit Kumar, son of Thoru Ram of Phinder tehsil, R S Pura district Jammu has been arrested. All the bovines have been rescued and the vehicle involved in the illegal transportation of bovines has also been seized, the spokesman said.
A case FIR No. 21/2026 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started, he said.
The arrest was made under the supervision of SSP Samba Virinder Manhas.
