JAMMU, Oct 31: The restoration work on the approach road of 4th Tawi bridge at Jammu to facilitate two- way traffic has been launched on war-footing and it will be completed with in one month.
A senior official in the District Administration disclosed that special funds have been released by the R&B Department for the restoration and urgent repair of this road and portion of a bridge damaged during heavy flood on August 26. He said the work was allotted hardly two days ago and the contractor and concerned officials of the R&B Satwari Division have been asked to complete the task within given time frame.
He said the Amry had raised a single bailey bridge at the site where Tawi flood had caused extensive damage to the approach road. A large portion of flood protection wall has also been damaged. The bridge at present is open for only one-way traffic. But this is very vital in view of the increasing volume of traffic and moreover, most of the vehicles while moving from City’s South belt towards Muthi, Domana, Talab Tilloo, Akhnoor, Rajouri-Poonch etc use this bridge and the road.
Chief Engineer, Jammu, Rajesh Gupta when contacted said that work on this approach road has been started. He said with the initiative of the R&B Minister, special funds were released and the work was allotted to take up this urgent work on war-footing.
“We expect to complete this work by one month. Our first priority will be to complete work on the flood protection wall of the approach road of this bridge. The flood on August 26 damaged major portion of the road and its protection wall. It will be restored for free movement of two-way traffic within 30 days without disturbing existing bailey bridge”, he added.
A senior officer connected with the project said special funds to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore have been allotted with the initiative of the concerned Minister for the restoration of this approach road which will reduce the heavy volume of traffic on the main Tawi bridge near Bikram Chowk. He said the work is being monitored closely by the concerned officials and it is being carried out on war-footing. By one month or maximum one and half, the work will be completed. The R&B Minister is also likely to visit the site tomorrow to review the progress of work, he added.
