JAMMU, May 24: Police rescued 42 bovine animals and arrested two persons from Nagrota and Chatha areas.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Nagrota police station laid a naka at Toll Plaza and intercepted three trucks bearing registration numbers JK02S-2325, JK02AS-8825 and JK02AF-9867.
During checking, police rescued 34 bovine animals, while the accused smugglers managed to escape from the spot.
A case under FIR Number 116/16 under Section 188, 420, 467, 468 and 474 RPC has been registered at police station Nagrota and manhunt has been launched to nab the bovine smugglers.
Police team led by SHO Nagrota Inspector Karan Chalotra accompanied by Tehsildar Nagrota Varinder Singh rescued the bovine animals under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma and SP Rural Arun Gupta.
Meanwhile, on specific information, a team from Chatha police station laid a naka at Hakkal Morh and intercepted two persons carrying flock of bovine animals.
During questioning, the persons failed to give satisfactory reply and were arrested by the police for smuggling bovine animals to the Valley.
The accused have been identified as Jamat Ali, son of Khoja and Younus Khan, son of Tej Ali, both residents of Rathana, RS Pura
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Chatha police post and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Chatha police post SI Krishan Raina made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Satwari Inspector Manjit Singh, SDPO South Sachin Gupta and SP South Shaazad Salaria.
