41 vehicles challaned, 3 seized; Rs 2 lakh fine imposed

REASI, Mar 19: Based on number of complaints received for overcharging from pilgrims, ARTO Reasi, Rajesh Gupta on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, today conducted onspot checking in and around Katra town.
The ARTO along with his team swung into action & conducted an extensive checking at different places along Katra route.
During the inspection, the ARTO enquired directly from passengers about the fare being charged.
During the extensive checking, the team challaned 58 Vehicles for overcharging & other violations to be recovered an amount of Rs 2 Lakh and compounded 41 vehicles and realized the sum amounting to Rs 41,000 on spot. Five vehicles including 3 motor cycles and two autos were seized.
The ARTO asked to display fare lists in all Autos for the convenience of general public & especially for Vaishno Devi piligrims.
He sensitised the drivers about Motor Vehicle Act and urged upon them to follow all the traffic rules to ensure their safety as well as the safety of the others.
During checking, Gupta emphasized that traffic rule violations lead to road accidents, killing number of commuters on daily basis and added that. adherence to traffic norms can avert majority of road accidents.
