Over 4000 schools clubbed

SRINAGAR, June 13: Government today said more than 4000 schools have been clubbed across Jammu and Kashmir to improve the quality of education and added that no school, however, was closed.
In a written reply to a question of MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in Upper House, the Minister Incharge Education said that no school has been closed in the State by the department.
“However, to improve the quality of education by providing adequate number of teachers and infrastructure, number of schools have been clubbed/ co-located,” said the Minister.
According to the official figures, 4044 schools have been clubbed in the State and highest of them have been clubbed in Kashmir Division. The figures reveal that 2546 schools were clubbed in Kashmir zone and 1498 in Jammu.
“Most of the schools clubbed were housed in rented buildings. The Government owned buildings spared in the process are proposed to be used for other activities of School Education Department including Adult Literacy Centres as well as libraries,” said the Minister. To a query, the Minister said there is no proposal of reorganization of educational zones or creating new zones during the current fiscal year.
