JAMMU, June 20: Forty officers and officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully completed the first phase of a 12-week training course on fingerprint science.
As per a statement, the training, held at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, began on April 15, 2025, and is a joint initiative of the Central Fingerprint Bureau (CFPB) and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The trainees, including Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, Head Constables and Constables, were trained in key areas such as fingerprint identification, lifting, analysis, comparison, and uploading data onto the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).
The course provided hands-on experience at every stage, aiming to enhance their crime investigation skills.
On completion of the 10th week of Phase-I, SSP Fingerprint Bureau J&K, Mohammad Yousif, appreciated the dedication shown by the participants.
He informed them about the next phase of training to be held in New Delhi. In the first week, the officers will receive practical exposure at Delhi Police stations. The final week will be conducted at the Central Fingerprint Bureau, where they will undergo assessment.
“This training marks the first structured effort to bridge the gap in fingerprint expertise within the J&K Police. It is expected to significantly strengthen the force’s capacity in scientific investigations,” the SSP Fingerprint Bureau said.
The programme was conceptualised and inaugurated by ADGP Headquarters MK Sinha, under the guidance of IGP Crime Dr Sunil Gupta.
SSP Mohammad Yousif supervised the course, while DySP Jagpal Sharma acted as the nodal officer, and experts from CFPB, including DySP Ajay Singh and Inspectors Dhananjay Yadav and Narinder Pahade, served as resource persons during the training.
