Food, water samples sent for forensic analysis

RAJOURI, Dec 8: A 40-year-old man and his three minor children died, while his wife and another daughter fell sick, due to suspected food poisoning in a remote village of Kotranka Sub-Division, Rajouri district.

According to Police, Fazal Hussain of Badhal Gorla village, his wife Shamim Akhter (38), and the couple’s four children were admitted to Rajouri Government Medical College Hospital with severe dyspepsia late Saturday.
Fazal Hussain died during treatment in the wee hours of Sunday, while his wife and the children were referred to GMC Jammu for specialised treatment, said Principal of GMC Rajouri, Dr A S Bhatia.

Despite hectic efforts by the doctors, three of the children – Rabia Kousar (15), Farmana Kouser (12), and Rafter Ahmad (4), – died at Jammu hospital while Shamim Akhter and her 12-year old daughter Ruksar are still under treatment and medical observation.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma said that the Police have initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the precise cause of the deaths while postmortem examinations were conducted to aid the ongoing investigations.
DC Rajouri also announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the affected family, provided from Red Cross Funds, through Tehsildar Koteranka, Sahil Ali Shah.
According to an official spokesperson, the administration promptly dispatched a health team to the village, which collected samples of the food consumed by the victims and the local water supply. The samples have been sent for forensic analysis and the administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and prevent further risks.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kotranka, Dil Mir has been actively coordinating with the bereaved family, ensuring they receive all necessary support. The administration has also initiated plans to raise awareness about food and water safety in the region to prevent such tragedies in the future, said the Government spokesperson.
