JAMMU, July 27: Four individuals were arrested from different areas of the Jammu district with 56 rolls of the banned nylon thread, also known as “Gattu” or “Chinese Manja”.
As per a police official, in one of the cases, a team of Pacca Danga Police Station led by SHO concerned, Inspector Rakesh Singh Jamwal, arrested one Vishukant Kuril of Hari Singh Nagar, Pacca Danga, Jammu with nine rolls of the banned nylon thread.
He was accordingly booked in case FIR number 84/2025 under section 223 of the BNS registered at Police Station Pacca Danga, he said.
In another case, the police official said, the same team arrested one Ansh Gupta of Shakti Nagar, Jammu with 28 rolls of the banned Chinese thread and accordingly booked him in case FIR Number 85/2025 under Section 223 of the BNS registered at Police Station Pacca Danga, with further investigation in both the cases taken up.
Meanwhile, another team of Police Station Janipur headed by SHO concerned, Inspector Vikram Sharma arrested one Bajinder Singh of Karan Nagar Jammu and recovered 10 rolls of the banned Chinese thread from his possession.
According to the police official, the accused was selling the Chinese thread through mobile-based orders to avoid public attention and police checkpoints.
He too has been booked under the relevant sections of the BNS, with further investigation against him taken up, he said.
Another individual, identified as Raman Kumar of Ward Number 6, R.S Pura was arrested with nine rolls of the banned Chinese thread from the RS town area by a police team headed by PSI Abid Bashir and supervised by SHO of the area, RS Parihar.
While an FIR under the relevant sections of the law has been registered against the accused, police have started further investigation into the matter.
It is important to mention here that nylon thread is a non-biodegradable and dangerously sharp material, known to cause serious and even fatal injuries to the motorcyclists and pedestrians, kill birds by entangling and slashing their wings or necks, and contribute significantly to environmental pollution by clogging drains and harming water bodies.
Its use is strictly banned under law and is also a violation of orders issued by the District Magistrate Jammu.
