SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Police today arrested four alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Baramulla, Sopore, Anantnag and Budgam districts, recovering contraband substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, police said they acted on specific inputs that Riyaz Ahmad Khan, son of late Ghulam Nabi Khan of Janbazpora, was attempting to sell charas in the area.
A police team, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate 1st Class, rushed to the spot and apprehended the suspect.
During a personal search, officers recovered 58 grams of charas concealed in a green polythene bag.
In Sopore, a police party from Police Post Warpora established a checkpoint at Botingoo Herpora and intercepted a suspicious individual.
During the search, officers recovered a charas-like substance along with bottles of Codeine Phosphate.
The accused was identified as Nisar Ahmad Malla, son of Mohammad Shaban Malla, a resident of Muqam Shaheed Mir.
In Anantnag district, a team from Police Post Sangam intercepted a man during routine patrolling at Doonipora near Weeta College.
Police said approximately 5.66 kilograms of a ganja-like substance was recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Sahil Fayaz Dar, son of Fayaz Ahmad Dar of KV Pora Marhama.
In Budgam, police from Police Station Beerwah, led by Head Constable Mohammad Ayaz, intercepted a suspect during naka checking near a service station in Beerwah.
Around 59 grams of charas-like substance, wrapped in corn husk, was recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat of Sunergund, Budgam.
Police said cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at the respective police stations and investigations are underway.
