3rd CSI J&K State Student Convention organized at MIET

JAMMU, Feb 25: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) organized the 3rd Computer Society of India (CSI) J&K State Student Convention at its Kot Bhalwal campus, here.
Hirdesh Kumar, Commissioner Secretary TE, YSS and IT was the chief guest on the inaugural function, while Amit Sharma, Managing Director, SIDCO was the guest of honour.
The theme of the Convention was ‘Make in India, Make in J&K’.
Over 600 students from CSE, IT and MCA departments from MIET and other institutions will participate in the 2 day event, which is sponsored by CSI.
Highlights of the event included the ‘Innovation Mela’ in which ground-breaking innovative projects by the students were showcased.
On the second day an ‘Idea Fest’ competition wherein teams will pitch their technical or business ideas to an eminent jury shall be held along with a workshop on “Developing Creative Ideas” featuring dynamic entrepreneurs from J&K Babar Afzal, Chairman, Kashmir Ink and Kunal Gupta, Director, Antarix Technologies.  MIET operates one of the largest CSI student chapters in North India with over 500 active student members.
Prof SK Sharma, Director, Academics welcomed the dignitaries on the occasion.
Prof Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET made a presentation on the innovative projects at MIET including the 12 patents filed on various IT applications. He also encouraged the students to innovate and push the boundaries of technical excellence.
Amit Sharma, MD, SIDCO in his address highlighted the several initiatives undertaken by the Government of India such as Make in India, Digital India, Skill India, and Startup India. He appreciated the efforts at MIET especially in Research and Innovation and expressed delight at the progress made in a local institution in J&K.
Hirdesh Kumar congratulated the management for creating a wonderful ambience for higher education and was impressed with the green campus of MIET. He also apprised the audience of the various IT initiatives undertaken by the Government in J&K for which it recently received the National award for e-Governance.
Salim Qureshi, Head, CSE presented the formal vote of thanks while Mekhla Sharma, AP, CSE compeered the event.
Later, the dignitaries interacted with the students who had put up 10 stalls showcasing innovative projects including several which are in the patenting stage.
