UDHAMPUR, Jan 16: Udhampur Police recovered 397 kg poppy straw from a Haryana based truck at Jakhani naka on the National Highway, here today and arrested driver of the truck along with his associate.
Reports said that a Police party of Police Station Udhampur established a special naka at National Highway Jakhani Chowk and intercepted a Truck bearing registration number HR69B-4868.
During checking, a specially fabricated chamber was detected inside the truck in which 19 bags filled with 397 kg poppy straw were found packed. Police arrested the truck driver, identified as Nand Kishore, son of Jagvir Singh of Rohtak, Haryana and his associate Niti Nain, son of Ajmair Singh of Rothak, Haryana.
Police also seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the truck and registered a case FIR number 25/2022, under section 8/15 NDPS Act in PS Udhampur.
During preliminary investigation, accused persons disclosed that they had bought the said consignment from Kulgam area and was meant for selling to the youth outside the Union Territory.
The naka party was headed by SHO PS Udhampur, Inspector Chaman Gorkha under the supervision of Addl SP Udhampur Anwaar Ul Haq and DySP Hqrs Udhampur Sahil Mahajan.
