JAMMU, Dec 31: To review and strengthen security arrangements related to banking and currency operations in J&K UT, the 34th Union Territory Level Security Committee (UTLSC) meeting was held here today.
Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary, Home Department, UT of Jammu & Kashmir, chaired the meeting in presence of Chandrashekhar Azad, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India for the UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
During the meeting, the forum discussed a wide range of security-related issues, including safety measures during the movement of cash and treasure, augmentation of security and guarding arrangements at currency chests and mitigation of fire risks in currency storage facilities.
The functioning and upgradation of security gadgets at banks and ATMs also came under detailed review.
The committee also discussed ensuring adequate dispensation of Rs 100 and Rs 200 denomination banknotes through ATMs to improve public convenience.
Special emphasis was laid on capacity building and training of bank officials for effective detection of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs), with the RBI stressing the importance of regular sensitisation and skill enhancement programmes.
Among others who attended the meeting included Alok Kumar, Director, Fire & Emergency Services, Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu Zone, R Gopala Krishna Rao, Inspector General, Jammu Sector, CRPF, Rajesh Kumar Yadav, IG, HQ J&K Zone, CRPF, Ashok Gupta, General Manager, J&K Bank and Vinod Kumar, Deputy General Manager, RBI.
Representatives from various government departments, controlling heads of commercial banks, Airport and Railway authorities and Air India were also present.
