JAMMU, June 23: At least 34 bovine animals were seized by police teams during ‘nakas’ in Mahore area of Reasi, Gool area of Ramban and in Rajouri district last night.
Reports from Rajouri said that police naka party led by SHO Rajouri, Chaman Gorkha under the supervision of SSP Rajouri, Rajeshwar Singh intercepted three Tata Mobile vehicles near Salani bridge last mid night and rescued 13 milch animals. The drivers of all three vehicles and smugglers escaped from the spot leaving behind the animals along with vehicles, the police said.
The police seized four bovines from vehicle No. JK-11A/ 4962, five animals from JK11B/ 2575 and five animals from Tata Mobile No. JK-11A/ 0370. The police seized all the vehicles along with animals and registered a case in this connection. The police claimed to have launched manhunt for the smugglers. It said that the smugglers were carrying bovines to Kashmir valley via Mughal Road.
Another police party during naka at Jamola village near Rajouri during last night, seized two bovine animals and arrested two persons in this connection. The police registered a case against them. They were moving on foot along with cattle.
A report from Reasi said that Mahore police under the supervision of SDPO Mohd Aslam and SHO, Insp Salim Altaf Raina during naka at Dewal village intercepted seven bovine animals at Lar Nallah and rescued them last night. While one smuggler namely Ghulam Nabi Nag, son of Abdul Gaffar, resident of Dewal was arrested, his associate managed to escape. They were carrying milch animals to Kashmir via Magnad Gali. The police registered a case FIR No. 38/ 2016 against the accused persons at Mahore Police Station.
Another police party led by SHO Chassana, SI Ranjeet Singh intercepted eight bovine animals during naka at Kunderdan Bera last night and arrested one person in this connection. His two associates however, managed to escape. They were on way to Shopian in Kashmir via Koser Nag Gali. The police seized all the eight animals and arrested smuggler Qamar Din, son of Jamal Din, resident of Channa Neosi in Chassana. A case was registered against them at Chassana Police Station.
Meanwhile, four bovine animals were seized by police from Gool area of district Ramban during early hours today. The police also arrested two smugglers in this connection. The police party led by SHO Gool, Ravi Singh during naka at Mugzi village, intercepted and seized four milch animals being smuggled to Kashmir.
The accused were identified as Mohd Sultan, son of Mohd Ramzan and Mohd Aqib, son of Mohd Rafiq Naik, both residents of Mahu Mangat area in Banihal. A case FIR No. 36/ 2016 was registered against them at Gool Police Station.
