Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo in his address said that Panun Kashmir at its inception in 1990 was representative of the pent-up feelings for the last seven centuries of the Kashmiri Pandit community. It created a hope, political narrative and a movement to regain what was lost by the community due to religious extremism and terrorism in Kashmir valley. Its special work in relation to the human rights and civil rights, espousal of issues pertaining to genocide and ethnic cleansing and political rights coupled with the cultural emancipation and humanitarian aid work created an unparalleled history and legacy. The national and international exposure of Panun Kashmir took the issue of Kashmiri Pandits to new heights and it created a situation for the indigenous people of the Kashmir valley to get counted in the context of its forced displacement from its historical homestead. It will continue to guide the political struggle in future too.
Utpal Kaul and Virender Raina also expressed their views.
Others who participated from various places of the globe included Upender Kaul, Kamal Bagati, Vimla Chrungoo, Sameer Bhat, Dr Nidhi Tikoo Mitra, Rakesh Bhat, Sanjay Raina, Shivdass Raina and PK Bhan.
