UDHAMPUR, Apr 7: Police foiled two separate attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 30 bovine animals besides arresting three smugglers at Udhampur and Tikri, here today.
Police team of Police Post Tikri intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR65A-9987 and rescued 20 bovines, which were found laden inside the vehicle without any valid permission.
Driver of the vehicle fled away from the spot after leaving behind his vehicle on the road. All the bovines were rescued and shifted to a safer place. In this regard, case FIR No. 46/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Rehambal.
Another bovine smuggling attempt was foiled when Police team of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO, Raghuvir Singh, intercepted three vehicles at Jakhani naka point.
The vehicles, bearing registration number JK14K-5066 (Mahindra Bolero), JK02BV-2755 (Mahindra Bolero) and JK14J-3731 (Tata Yodha) were carrying 10 bovines for smuggling.
Drivers of these vehicles, namely Mukhtiyar Ahmed, son of Abdul Latief of Sunari, Udhampur; Showkat Ali son of Sher Ali of Jakhar, Udhampur and Tariq Hussain son of Arshad Ahmed of Krimachi Mansar, Udhampur were arrested on the spot.
In this regards, case FIR numbers 103/2025, 104/2025, 105/2025 under relevant sections have been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, Police apprehended two bovine smugglers, who were evading arrest for the last several years.
Police team of Police Station Kud succeeded in apprehending Hasan Din son of Sain Din of Palli, Tehsil Hiranagar, Kathua who was evading arrest for the last 14 years in case FIR No 04/2011 U/S 188IPC ,3PCA act of PS Kud.
Another absconder, wanted in bovine smuggling for the last eight years, was apprehended by Police Station Rehambal. The accused, namely Makhan son of Yousaf of Laswara, Bishnah, District Jammu, was wanted in FIR No. 81/2017, registered under Sections 188, 3 PCA Act at PS Rehambal.
