SRINAGAR, July 28: Three tourists were killed and 5 injured in a mysterious blast at Bijbehara in South Kashmir this afternoon.
The victims were travelling in a tempo traveler bearing registration number JK02AP/0676 and were on their way to Srinagar from tourist resort of Pahalgam. When the vehicle in which they were travelling reached at village Zuripora on the national highway near Bijbehara, Anantnag, a mysterious blast took place in the vehicle.
The blast created a big crate to the floor of the vehicle and caused minor damage to the window panes. Two women tourists died on the spot while six others were injured, one of them critically. One of the injured later succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The dead have been identified as Neesha Jeetwah wife of Anil Jeetwah, Nirmala Rathore wife of Jai Raj and Indu Bhae of Mumbai.
The injured have been identified as Bharti wife of Ashwini Kumar, Neeta Jeetwah wife of Bharat Jeetwah, Preetama Jeetwah wife of Vinod Jeetwah, Jayshri Desai wife of Arun Kumar and Jaswanti Thakur wife of Vasant Thakur.
A police spokesman said here that it was cylinder blast that took place inside the vehicle. The forensic experts of the police have taken samples for investigation. Police have registered a case and are investigating the case.
The traffic on the highway remained disrupted as a result of blast and senior police and security force officers reached the spot to assess the situation. However, the traffic was later restored after rescue operation and road clearance.
