POONCH, Mar 29: Three persons, accused of creating public nuisance under the influence of liquor in Poonch bazaar, have been sentenced to community service.
The accused, identified as Mukhtar Ahmed of Sehri Chowhana, Haveli; Mohd Fareed of Sehri Chowhana and Mohd Arshad of Dharra Dullian, Haveli, were creating public nuisance under the influence of liquor.
They have been sentenced to community service under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Poonch.
The accused were presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Poonch who directed the accused to perform community service to assist the Traffic Police for regulations of traffic in Poonch for three days from 09:00AM to 05:00PM w.e.f 30.03.2025 under Section 355 of the BNS.
This provision under the new criminal laws emphasizes rehabilitation and community engagement for minor offenses, promoting reform over punishment.
