3 peddlers arrested with charas, poppy

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: The police have arrested three drug peddlers today, including a resident of Punjab, in Awantipora, Kulgam. They have also recovered bhung, charas, and poppy straw from their possession.
As per a statement issued here, a police party, led by the Incharge of Police Post Reshipora and supervised by SDPO Awantipora, apprehended one of the drug peddlers, identified as Mohd Amin Sheikh, son of Mohd Rafiq Sheikh, a resident of Batpora Gulzarpora, Awantipora.
The police recovered 4.2 kilograms of bhung Chura and 310 grams of Charas powder from his possession. “He has been taken into custody and is currently held at the police station.”
In Kulgam, another police party from Police Post Mirbazar, stationed at Malpora Chowk, intercepted a vehicle (Truck) with the registration number JK08-6623, carrying two individuals. During the search, the police discovered 4.6 kilograms of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag in their possession.
The individuals were identified as Mohd Aslam Kumar, son of Abdul Gani Kumar, a resident of Marhama Anantnag, and Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Darshan Kumar, Pathankot, Punjab. Both suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody.
The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, police said.
Consequently, a case FIR No. 214/2023 under relevant sections of the law, has been registered at Police Station Qazigund, and an investigation is underway.
