Srinagar, Sept 30: Police have arrested three youths for their alleged role in stone-throwing and flag waving incidents while drive has been launched to track down the persons who are behind the weekly protests in Old City parts.
Sources told Excelsior that police arrested three youth from Narwara neighbourhood of Eidgah area of Old City for their alleged involvement in stone-throwing and waving flags of Pakistan and Islamic State (IS).
These youths have been identified as Hilal Ahmad Bhat, Faizan Shah and Ishfaq Ahmad Najar.
Sources further said that the police have decided to track down the persons who are behind the frequent weekly protests and clashes in Old City areas of Jama Masjid, Nowhatta and its adjoining areas on Fridays. “The police have decided to step up the probe in order to contain the protests as well as the waving of Islamic State, Lashkar, Jaish and Pakistan flags. These protests are cause of concern for us and now the emergence of pictures and graffiti of militant commander Burhan has added to our worry,” the sources said.
Police sources said that so far it has come to forth that the persons behind these protests are not alone from Old City but people from other areas of the city as well as Valley also mix-up with them. “These masked young men are difficult to identify. But now we will focus on them in order to get rid of these protests,” they said.
“We will use human intelligence as well as Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in tracking them down. Once they would be nabbed, we will take strict action against them under the law,” the police sources added.
