JAMMU, Jan 16: Three persons were arrested in Bishnah area today for allegedly displaying a fake designation plate on a vehicle to impersonate a Government officer.
Police said a team from Police Station Bishnah led by SHO concern, Inspector Rakesh Singh Jamwal, intercepted a Punjab number Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (PB07BZ-3108) and found a fake designation plate reading “Assistant Commissioner Excise, Hoshiarpur Range” displayed on the front.
During checking, they said, the occupants were found misusing the name and insignia of a Government authority to exert undue influence.
According to them, the main accused was identified as Sunil Kumar alias Lakha of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, along with 2 associates.
Police said a further search led to the recovery of multiple identity cards of media channels from the possession of the main accused, raising suspicion of impersonation and misuse.
They said the accused failed to give any satisfactory explanation for carrying the fake designation plate and identity cards.
Accordingly, all three accused, along with the vehicle, were brought to Police Station Bishnah and a case under the relevant sections of the law was registered against them for cheating and impersonation, they said.
Meanwhile, further investigation has been set into motion.
